GMGZJA Future Tour

In light of the recent COVID-19 precautions advising against non-essential travel, and the closure of all Clubs (including Laidley’s clubhouse), Gary and I have to regretfully advise that the start of the 2020 Future Tour will be postponed.

While we cannot set a restart date at this time, we are guided by Golf Australia’s latest advice closing all junior coaching via the MyGolf program until 16 May. We will let you know via Glasshouse Mountains Junior Golf facebook page and this webpage of any changes to this.

We urge everyone to abide by the advice of Government in terms of “social distancing” and hygiene precautions so that we may see all our wonderful juniors and their families back on the golf course as soon as possible.

The Glasshouse Mountains Golf Zone Junior Association (GMGZJA), with the support and assistance of the participating Golf Clubs, delivers a program of golf events for juniors known as the “Future Tour”.

2020 Season Calendar

This year the Future Tour is being held across 13 Golf Clubs on Sundays from 29 March to 18 October 2020.  The Clubs hosting events are: Laidley, Woodford, Pine Rivers, Ashgrove, Bribie Island, Kilcoy, Maleny, Beerwah, Pelican Waters, Virginia, Redcliffe, Caboolture and Wantima.

The full list of Future Tour Event dates for 2020 is available here.  Online entry for the events are made through the Events Calendar and generally open for entry about 2 weeks before the event. The tee times  (draw) for each event is published in the same place, usually on the Friday evening prior to the event.

Who can play Future Tour events?

The Tour events are open to all boys and girls aged between 5 and 17 years old who have reached a minimum standard of golf skill to enable them to enjoy playing 3 or more holes of golf.

Ideally, children should be of a standard that enables them to make regular contact with the ball (not too many “airswings”) and have a basic understanding of the safety aspects of golf (e.g.not walking close to or in front of other players making a swing).  All players under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

At this time competitions are offered in the following divisions: 3 holes (short), 6 holes (short), 9 holes (short) and 18 holes.  While all 18 hole event players must have official GA handicaps, players in the other divisions do not require official handicaps and will be handicapped based on the Future Tour rules.

To assist Junior Coordinators and Players extracts of the 2020 Future Tour Manual are avaiable here to download.  Each document is only 1 page long and should eb read by all players and caddies participating in the Future Tour.
